San Miguel Consortium Secures NAIA Concession in Landmark $3 Billion Deal

The Philippine government has awarded the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) rehabilitation, operation, and maintenance concession to a consortium led by San Miguel Holdings Corporation (SMC), marking a significant milestone in the country's airport modernization program. The San Miguel Consortium (SMC SAP), comprised of San Miguel Holdings Corp., RMM Asian Logistics, Inc., RLW Aviation Development, Inc., and Incheon International Airport Corp., emerged victorious after a rigorous bidding process involving several qualified contenders.

The concession agreement, valued at approximately $3 billion, signifies a pivotal moment for NAIA, the Philippines' primary international gateway. The winning consortium's proposal, which included an 82.16% revenue share to the government, underscores their commitment to not only revamping the airport's infrastructure and facilities but also generating substantial economic benefits for the nation.

"We are honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of elevating NAIA to world-class standards," declared Ramon Ang, President and CEO of SMC. "Our vision is to transform NAIA into a modern, efficient, and globally competitive airport that provides a seamless and enjoyable travel experience for all passengers."

The project envisions a comprehensive overhaul of NAIA, encompassing the rehabilitation of existing terminals, the enhancement of capacity to accommodate a projected 62 million passengers annually, and the modernization of information and technology infrastructure. Additionally, the focus will be on streamlining landside and airside operations to ensure smooth and efficient passenger flow.

This strategic collaboration between the government and the private sector represents a significant step forward in realizing the Philippines' ambition to position itself as a premier air travel hub in Southeast Asia. The project aligns with the country's broader infrastructure development goals and is expected to generate substantial economic benefits through job creation, increased tourism, and foreign direct investment.

The successful awarding of the NAIA concession marks a crucial chapter in the airport's storied history. With San Miguel Consortium at the helm, NAIA is poised to embark on a transformative journey, soaring to new heights and exceeding expectations as a world-class aviation facility that reflects the Philippines' growing economic prowess and aspirations.
